We are honored to share our interview with the beauty behind La Lune Apothecary,Megan Hazard. Not only is she an inspiring business women who created her all-natural skincare company which uses natural ingredients and distills everything in a beautiful copper distiller, but she has been one of our favorite models for Bahgsu Jewels. Get to know this inspiring women and the magic of La Lune Apothecary.

Can you share with us your history with skincare and how you came to create La Lune Apothecary?

As a teen and young adult I suffered from acne. Frustrated with countless chemically ridden products and prescriptions, my skin actually got worse with conventional treatment. I soon discovered how toxic the ingredients I was using, and how little the FDA regulates what goes into skincare products.  Frustration turned into inspiration and I began my life long quest to formulate organic and effective natural skincare products.

The moon is a divine symbol of femininity, luminary, & alignment. How has the moon played a part in your company?

La Lune is french for moon, and as a woman the moon as played a big role in the inspiration for this Apothecary.  She influences the tides, the seasons, plant life, and our bodies. We try our best to distill our hydrosols and essential oils on full and new moons to embody the lunar energy in the plant cycles.

Your love of nature lead you to your passion for plants. Do you have a favorite medicinal plant?

I work with plants on a daily basis, so it tends to change frequently :)  But as far as skin is concerned it would have to be the holy Rose Geranium.  This flower is such a healing plant for women no matter the stage of life. Soft notes of floral rose, Rose Geranium is healing for acne-prone inflamed skin as well as containing powerful anti-aging properties.

Just as different plants have different healing powers, crystals are powerful tools for transformation. What is your favorite crystal and why?

Moonstone would have to be one of my favorites. Vibrating with feminine wisdom and goddess energy of the waxing and full moon, this crystal has always brought me a calming and grounding energy. It is rare if I don't have a piece of Bahgsu moonstone jewelry on!

La Lune Apothecary Skin Healing Trio

Cleanse

I begin with cleansing my skin with Botanical Facial Polish.  This gentle restorative blend will remove dirt and impurities while nourishing the skin.  Chamomile and aloe with relieve redness and inflammation. Lavender is antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and possesses cell regenerating properties for reducing wrinkles and scars. Horse chestnut is complex plant that is used as a toner for acne prone skin as well as an anti-aging powerhouse.  High in vitamin C, it increases blood flow to the skin and inhibits the breakdown of hyaluronic acid-- a main component in tissue repair.  Lastly, the kaolin clay provides minerals like silica and magnesium to maintain healthy skin.  The mild white clay will draw out dirt and bacteria with out stripping the natural oils of the skin. In essence, the botanical facial polish will not leave the face feeling tight and dry like most cleansers, which disrupts the pH.  The dynamic blend of herbs, horse chestnut  and clay will remove impurities, soothe inflammation, and provide the topical nutrition of vitamin C.

Hydrate

After Cleansing I then hydrate my face with 4-5 pumps of one of our organic hydrosols.  Hydrosols are therapeutic floral waters where essential oils and healing properties of the plant distilled are evenly distributed throughout the spring water.  Much more complex than facial mists/toners, we distill the artisanal liquids for hours in a copper still, bringing a powerful healing treatment in every drop. Due to their balancing properties, hydrosols can be used liberally through out the day in a various ways.

Repair

Lastly, it is crucial to lock in the moisture and supply further topical nutrition with a blend of rich fatty-acids. I use the Cellular Revival Serum but if I am experiencing some hormonal acne I will switch to our Blemish Repair Serum (safe and formulated for acne prone skin). The cold-pressed oils help strengthen and nourish the stratum corneum (outer layer of skin). Serums are best used in the morning and evening.

Summer means lots of time in the sun. What's your favorite natural/organic sun protection?

There is no better sun protection than a hat + sunglasses! On top of that I usually slather shea butter on my skin for natural SPF of 15. For my post sun routine, I mist La Lune Apothecary Strawberry Hydrosol to soothe redness and apply our Cellular Revival Serum to assist in cellular regeneration and Vitamin C.

Favorite place to travel to?

Even though I live here I would have to say the Pacific Northwest!  Redwood forests, pacific ocean, and lush green life growing everywhere!  My husband and I love to call this home half of the year and it is where the La Lune Apothecary studio is located.

Sunsets or sunrises?

Sunrises. Working with plants means early mornings. It is a magical quiet time of day where everything is possible.
